Skiing, the Bottom Line

Below is a quicker way to learning skiing.

Equipment: Go to a ski shop and get yourself some short, soft, shaped skis, correctly sized ski poles, comfortable ski boots, some long underwear, goggles, gloves, ski pants, a neck warmer, and a ski hat.

Go to a ski mountain and sign up for a group ski lesson.

That’s it.

Want some on-line instructions? Okay here they come but don’t say I didn’t warn you, I will probably put you to sleep.

Start on a gradual beginners ski slope.
Have your skis perpendicular to the down hill direction (a.k.a. fall line).
Have your feet shoulder width apart.
Put you hands out in front of you with your elbows bent.
Bend your knees to a slight crouch.
Maintain a balanced body position by vertically lining up your toes, knees, and shoulders.
Turn your skies down the hill.
Put your weight on the balls of your feet.
Point your knees in the direction you want to turn and wait for your skis to turn.
Allow your skis to finish the turn, the turn is done when you are again perpendicular to the slope.
Repeat the process in the opposite direction.
Start linking your turns together without stopping.
It’s okay to separate your skis into a wedge (tips together tails apart) to stop.
Practice, practice, practice.
Wasn’t that simple?

Go to the bar for some apre ski refreshment and buy your ski instructor a beer.

I will add pictures when I get someone to shoot some, in the meantime use your imagination and remember to have some fun while learning.
